VIEW FROM THE SOUTH – BIRMINGHAM CITY vs EVERTON

I met up with Will in Guildford at around 10.30 for the journey north and had the third degree from him because I was a few minutes late. He was revelling in the fact that he had been at our prearranged meeting point on time – a world first! Nevertheless, I had to take the [...]

Birmingham City v Everton Brief Post Match Thoughts

2-0 down with Everton destroying us, the sleeves are rolled up and the battle commences. A deft Jerome flick pulls it back to 2-1 and early in the second half during sustained pressure – Gardner scores his first goal for the club and a beauty it was too.
I thought this was a really good game [...]

Everton 5 Hull City 1

Football people tend to overexaggerate the importance of one or two results. Arsenal lose a game and the pundits pronounce they have no chance of winning the title. A couple of weeks and wins later, they’re backtracking.
Or take Manchester City, where Roberto Mancini goes from genius to gormless and back again every few games. [...]

Birmingham City v Everton Preview

After the win in midweek at crisis club Portsmouth – we return to St Andrews to face an Everton side who appear to be improving week by week.
With key players like Arteta returning, Everton have gone on a decent run. Landon Donovan has been another player who has made a big impact. He is on [...]

Strike in MLS Means Landon Donovan Stays At Everton? Not Necessarily

From Liverpool, we are reading quotes from Everton FC manager David Moyes saying that a strike means Landon Donovan would stay at Everton.
“The loan officially finishes tomorrow and we will send him back but I think there is still a chance that the players there might strike and if that was the case then we [...]

Donovan will be sorely missed

It looks as though Everton have given up hope of extending Landon Donovan’s loan spell at Goodison and the USA star will be sorely missed.
The forward has been like a breath of fresh air and it has been no coincidence that his arrival in December prompted a marked improvement of results. In fact the Blues [...]

Do Newcastle United really need anymore goalkeepers?

There are reports emerging that Chris Hughton was in Scotland yesterday to watch John Ruddy play and keep tabs on the youngsters progress. The 23 year-old which is quite young for a keeper is on loan..

On-Loan Goalkeeper Expecting To Leave Goodison

Motherwell’s on-loan ace John Ruddy has conceded his Everton career is almost certainly over following the signing of Jan Mucha.
The Slovakia international joins Tim Howard and Iain Turner at Goodison Park next season and Ruddy believes competition for places means his future lies elsewhere.
Ruddy is currently impressing on a season-long loan at Fir Park and [...]

Everton vs Birmingham – Lan-done?

Everton’s tip to the midlands this weekend will probably be the last game, of this season at least, for on loan American Landon Donovan. After Landon’s impressive spell at the club there have been calls for him to stay, but it would be unfair to ask Landon to do what we vilified Lescott for during [...]

Everton Maul Awf-hull City

So here we go, another chance to wax lyrical about a superb Everton Premier League performance. Everton have been dominant in recent games in England’s top tier, and despite their abysmal start to the season are just 8 points off 4th placed Spurs. Now I am not going to go on about ‘what might have [...]

Rumor Mill: Joey to United, Carlo in for Landy Cakes?

The latest from the back pages…

1. Joe Cole open to move to Manchester United
Joey’s situation is well-documented. Carlo has all but chucked him to the side. His form, as well, has suffered greatly since Jan. 2009 (ligament injury). And, of course, his contract is up at the end of the season. The People reckons the [...]

Landon Donovan Exits Goodison in Everton Glory

After Landon Donovan’s empathic goal at Goodison Park yesterday, he was carried by teammate Jack Rodwell into the corner nearer the crowd so he could receive the plaudits from the fans more directly.  That the crowd started chanting USA-USA-USA was not surprising.  English supporters have taken up the famous cheer to celebrate whenever an American [...]

Thank You Landon – Everton vs Hull

So Sundays game against Hull City will more than likely be Landon Donavon’s last game for Everton, despite David Moyes going on record as saying he wanted to extend the stay of the on loan American.
LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena has poured cold water on this by saying:
“We’re not interested. Landon will be back here [...]

Everton Talking to Galaxy, MLS About Donovan Loan Extension

Reports in England confirm that Everton is talking to Major League Soccer and the Los Angeles Galaxy about extending Landon Donovan’s loan.
The original loan deal sending Donovan to Liverpool was for ten weeks, putting the league’s Most Valuable Player back in Los Angeles before the club kicks off their season on March 27 at Home [...]

Never do things by halves

           Varied fare at the Lane.

We played our best half of football this season champagne and caviare stuff, but the second half was more warm beer and a ploughman’s. Everton inevitably came back at us from 2-0 down after half time. We just about had the strength to survive although in the end we were a little fortunate that they didn’t take their chances.

We saw the best and worse of

Spurs 2-1 Everton: The Nerve-Shredding Final Ten Minutes

AANP did a Landon Donovan on Sunday and missed the entire ruddy thing altogether. If you want a blow-by-blow, warts-and-all account of Sunday’s magnificence you may be disappointed, as I was keeping tabs on big Martin Jol (blessed be his name) – a not entirely salubrious stag weekend culminating in a trip to the Amsterdam [...]

Baines is ideal Cole replacement, says Moyes

David Moyes believes Leighton Baines is the ideal replacement for Ashley Cole with Wayne Bridge unavailable for England.
Baines has been called up to Fabio Capello’s Three Lions squad for Wednesday’s friendly with Egypt and Toffees chief Moyes is sure that Baines can offer similar attributes to that of injured full-back Cole.
Moyes said: “Ashley Cole is [...]

A game of two halves – Spurs 2 Everton 1

It was a game of two halves this lunchtime at White Hart Lane and but for the miss of Landon Donovan a repeat of the game at Goodison Park. Thankfully we were able to hold on for a win that protects our fourth place spot though with Manchester City’s victory at Stamford Bridge I feel [...]
