FA Cup Recap: Chelsea 2, Stoke City 0

Professional. Efficient. Win.
How good does it feel to use these terms with regard to the famous CFC once again?

This was a much-needed morale builder following a dip in form that included three defeats among our past five matches. We couldn’t have asked for a better opponent, either. Stoke, however inferior talent-wise, are a disciplined, resilient [...]

FA Cup Preview: Chelsea v Stoke

The holders attempt to take a further step toward a repeat at Stamford Bridge against Tony Pulis’ hardened, effective Stoke City side. Did I mention they eliminated Manchester City in the last round? Yeah, this one should be a test.

Media Miss The Point On Ramsey Injury

The usual suspects have lined up to defend Ryan Shawcross’ challenge on Aaron Ramsey, blithely dismissing it as ‘one of those things, football is so fast‘. It is not one of those things because football is faster now, nor is it acceptable because there are ‘40-50 tackles which are just as bad‘ – Alan Hansen [...]

One A Piece

It was a game of really mixed fortunes for us and two Wigan teams. In a game where three points would have been a great help we got one. Depending on how you look at it, you could say that it is four points dropped from our last two games, and we cannot afford to do this. Stoke played as their predictable selves, full of fight, and for a battle. A Battle is what we gave them in the first half.

Stoke City Preview

Another mid week game, lets hope its not like last week. I don’t think any of the supporters can do with another defeat again, especially when this is such a must win. Winning tomorrow could help boost our chances of survival, Stoke are only four places above us and only six points ahead. Win and we close that gap to three points with a game in hand, lose and its nine but still with a game in hand. That game in hand though, can’t be our safety net till the end of our season, we have to win games now and get points on the board.

Stoke Deliver KO Blow

FA Cup 4th Round
Stoke City 3 – 1 Arsenal
1 – 0 Fuller (2)
1 – 1 Denilson (42)
2 – 1 Fuller (77)
3 – 1 Whitehead (85)
The opportunity to win one of the three trophies in which Arsenal had an interest disappeared yesterday at The Britannia Stadium as Stoke City ended their FA Cup hoodoo, not undeservedly [...]

We’re out of the Cup. Time to get over it.

If you were realistic before going into this game, you knew that there was pretty much only one likely result yesterday, and it wasn’t in favour of Arsenal.
Arsenal succumed to a physically imposing Stoke City who sensed a chance for an ‘upset’ and duly took it. Arsenal did not cover themselves in glory at all [...]

FA Cup 5th round draw

The full fifth round draw is as follows:

Wolves or Crystal Palace v Aston Villa
Manchester City v Stoke
Derby v Birmingham
Bolton v Tottenham or Leeds
Chelsea v Cardiff
Fulham v Notts County or Wigan
Reading v West Brom
Southampton v Portsmouth

With Arsenal crashing out earlier today, the draw really has opened up in this seasons competition. Avoiding Chelsea I suppose was the key, so a home tie against Stoke is good draw – they are no pushover but their success has in the main been at The Britannia Stadium.

Given we have also got over the mental block this season of exiting cup competitions at the quarter-final stage, there is every reason to feel we could go a long way in this seasons FA Cup.

Villa get Wolves in FA Cup

We are already on the way to Wembley in the League Cup, wouldnt it be nice to be going twice in one season? Well why not? Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all out, so why can’t we win the domestic double?
Home wins over Blackburn and Brighton see us sitting pretty, and surely one of the [...]

Stoke 3 – Arsenal 1: Defensive Miscues Send Gunners Crashing Out of FA Cup

stoke city-arsenal 3-1by jugabubus
Well, if Arsenal want to go to Wembley this season, they’re going to have to buy tickets like everyone else. We are now out of both the domestic cup competitions.
I have weirdly mixed feelings about this one. To be honest, I knew Stoke was going to be tough away, and especially [...]

Stoke – Arsenal (FA Cup) Match Thread

Lineups are in, and Wenger’s got a doozy of a surprise lineup selection:
Stoke: Starters: Sorensen, Huth, Shawcross, Higginbotham, Collins, Delap, Whitehead, Whelan, Etherington, Sidibe, Fuller. Subs: Simonsen, Lawrence, Beattie, Pugh, Diao, Sanli, Wilkinson.
Arsenal: Starters: Fabianski, Coquelin, Campbell, Silvestre, Traore, Eastmond, Denilson, Fabregas, Walcott, Emmanuel-Thomas, Vela. Subs: Mannone, Rosicky, Eduardo, Ramsey, Arshavin, Bartley, Frimpong.
Well, pretty much [...]

A draw would be worse than a loss for Arsenal

A quick FA Cup preview before I totter off to bed – and miss the match as a result, dammit.
Given our well-documented Satan’s Run of Fixtures coming up, we all know the need to rotate the side going into our away match against Stoke.
No-one, of course, rotates a side quite like Arsenal do. We should [...]

FA Cup Preview: Stoke City (A)

Stoke City entertain Arsenal this afternoon looking to continue their proud FA Cup record of never having won a tie against the visitors. Rarely will they have been presented with a better opportunity. It is safe to say that this will not be the strongest Arsenal line-up that they could face. It does not mean [...]
