After last nights win over Wolfsburg there has been lots of praise for the midfield and Dimitar Berbatov. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Anderson and Michael Carrick were key to United’s win.

Anderson had a good night in midfield and Carrick scored the winner. I think that most of the players did their part last night in someway.

Last night Fergie said: “I think we had a very good team performance tonight in terms of our football”

“I think Michael and Anderson in central midfield had particularly good games for us.”

“It doesn’t do him [Carrick] any harm scoring a goal, but he really did enjoy himself tonight.”

“We think that he’s always slow to start the season’s since he has come to us and it’s normally about October that he gets into his stride and we’re seeing that.”

Last night Man United played Wolfsburg in the Champions League, we all expected a tough match and that is exactly what we got. Wolfsburg got off to a bright start; unlike most teams who come to Old Trafford- Wolfsburg came out and attacked us.

No goals were scored in the first half but it wasn’t a boring match to watch.

The first chance of the game fell to Christian Gentner minutes in but his shot was comfortable enough for Tomasz Kuszczak.

The first real chance for United came in the 19th minute when Wayne Rooney free kick went just wide of the goal.

Michael Owen started up front for Man United but early on he seemed to pull his groin, which meant that he didn’t really get a chance to get into the game. Dimitar Berbatov came on for Owen and he woke United up and he played some brilliant football.

During the first half Antonio Valencia was running at the fullbacks, he was getting a few balls into the area but nothing materialised.

The German side took the lead ten minutes into the second half. It was a bit of a surprise, through they had played well, and they never really looked like scoring. Wolfsburg went ahead through a well-taken headed goal by Edin Dzeko.

That goal spurred Man United into life and only minutes later we had our equaliser. Ryan Giggs free kick took a deflection off one of the Wolfsburg players and flew past the keeper.

Michael Carrick won the game thanks to a well-taken goal. The goal came from a throw-in, which Wayne Rooney took, he threw it to Berbatov who spun but was unable to make enough space to shoot. Instead of shooting Berba tapped the ball to Giggs who was also unable to shoot, Giggs laid the ball off to Carrick who new exactly where he wanted to place it. For the first time in the game Man United were leading and I was confident that we were going to win the game.

Nemanja Vidic was lucky to stay on the pitch. Vidic was shown a yellow card after blatantly pulling down a Wolfsburg player (who had turned him) in their own half. There was no need to do it, there were defenders back and it was reckless. It could have been costly later on in the game. He took out a Wolfsburg player just outside the penalty area and ended up injuring himself. It was another stupid challenge and he was incredibly lucky not to be sent off.

Overall I am happy with our performance but I am still slightly worried about our defence. We aren’t as confident at the back as we were last season, I don’t know if that is because Edwin Van Der Sar is out due to injury or because Rio Ferdinand and Vidic haven’t started off the season together, poor Ferdinand has been suffering from injuries.
